Check out this bug-out bunker

http://www.survivalproperty.com/imag...e_mailslot.jpg

Strategically located in the awesome San Juan mountains of Southwest Colorado, this patented steel-reinforced concrete earth home was built to withstand almost any natural or man-made disaster you can name. It is more secure, safe, and functional than any conventional house could ever be, yet still has a level of comfort that one might not expect to find in an underground home.

Current asking price for the house and 4.3 acre parcel is the appraised value of $500,000.

<!-- - The 3 acre parcel will be included for FREE with apurchase of the house for $495,000 -->http://www.survivalproperty.com/secure_home.htm

It is interesting. I noticed the price has dropped to $450k. I wasn't able to find how big the place is in terms of square feet, though. I'd have to know that.

Hell, the solar energy system alone has to be worth at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the price. Of course, you'd have to consider the life of the batteries, too. Don't you have to replace them every 10 - 15 years or so?

Its very quaint but too outwardly visible for my taste.

I would prefer a invisible to the passerby kind of underground home.

As in you would not know the place was built underground unless the door was open.

Otherwise its entrances would blend in to the surrounding area.

For $500K (give or take) I would expect it to have a motorized swinging rock entrance like the Bat Cave.

"Holy bug-out bunker, Batman!"

Hey, they changed the story of why the owner built it! At one time it said something about Y2K. Now, it tells the tale of all the bad things that happened to his hunting cabin and why he wanted to build something less vulnerable. Appealing to a wider market? Embarassed about building a survival retreat no one wants to buy? Lol!

It is cute in a Disney Land/Hobbit Hole sort of way. Of course, it's been on the Internet for years, so far too many people know about it, and it's clearly not something with good resale value...

Every 8-10 years is more like it.

Thanks! I wasn't sure, but I thought my estimate was on the high end.

Just wonder how old those batteries are....
